IFAD, ILC, CTA learning event: participatory mapping
Organized by: IFAD, CTA, and ILC
Date: 16 June
Time: 10:00-16:45
Venue: IFAD, Room S105
The purpose of this learning event, organized under the framework of the “Piloting IFAD’s Participatory Mapping Approach for Specific Livelihoods (Pastoralists, Indigenous People, Forest dwellers) through innovative twinning arrangements”, is to:
- Raise awareness about participatory mapping processes and initiatives
- Share knowledge gained from the implementation of different projects with participants and to learn from different experiences with participatory mapping.
The event will give you the opportunity to gain an insight into participatory mapping and to learn how this methodology can support poverty reduction and access to natural resources. Based on the experiences of different organizations the event will illustrate how poor communities, particularly the poorest and most vulnerable, can play a key role in the planning, managing and decisions-making processes over natural resources. Participatory mapping is becoming increasingly important when planning to increase resilience to the impacts of climate change.
In addition, the event will also give participants the opportunity to:
- have a hands-on experience in participatory map-making
- learn how participatory mapping processes can support project monitoring and evaluation
- learn how knowledge generated by participatory mapping processes can support the development of participatory communication strategies.
Different organizations will showcase their experiences in a Market Place to promote opportunities for knowledge sharing and networking.
