A peasant movement tackles land grabbing and reclaims disputed land
This is the outcome of an advocacy campaign led by CICODEV Africa and the Collectif des Paysans sans Terre de Diokoul against land grabbing in the rural community of Diokoul Ndiawrigne, in Senegal. This 2-year campaign involved 99 farmers from 4 villages and aimed at reclaiming 400 hectares of land of which they had been unlawfully deprived according to the national land legislation. Through different means, the campaign managed to reclaim 350 out of 400 hectares, thus ensuring food security for the rural households after 6 years of food, nutrition and energy insecurity due to land grabbing and the deprivation of their lands.
