Kitchen Garden secures land for women and food for the family

Kitchen Garden is the demarcated small piece of land exclusively in the name of the women of the family. In support of NES India, SWADHINA held a one-day event to emphasize the importance of Kitchen Garden as a symbol of land rights of women and a remind participants of the need for a family-based farming for food security and nutrition needs. Around 51 rural women, mostly from marginalized families took part in this event held at Ghatsila in Jharkhand.

Ms. Saswati Roy of SWADHINA posed a challenge among the participants that 10 women from will be given small seed support provided that they will be claiming their piece of kitchen garden when they go back home. Thirteen women came up to the challenge and were given packets of seed. SWADHINA visited some of the challengers and see what positive changes came to them after a month by reading the full report.
