Advocacy before the CEDAW Committee for positioning rural women's land rights
In order to bring attention to the situation of rural women rights and access to land in the Argentinean region of El Chaco, various civil society organizations worked together to elaborate an alternative report. It was later presented, in 2016, at the 65th session of the UN International Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). The report highlights how the lack of access to land and to other natural resources negatively impact rural women lives and development. It shows a different reality to that displayed in reports previously submitted by the Argentinean State. As a result, CEDAW issued recommendations to the State of Argentina with points and suggestions included in the alternative report, turning it into an effective tool for promoting rural women rights.
