Global Policy
The contribution of land governance to food security, social justice and food sovereignty is a key area of debate in which many ILC members are engaged. There is a lot of discussion about the implications of these concepts, but what is agreed upon among ILC members is the commitment to promoting small-scale production systems of food, controlled and owned by people living on and from the land.
ILC supported the 2014 International Year of Family Farming, including through a series of research projects to contribute to the debate on the role of smallholder agriculture and continues to engage in the campaign to promote family farming and advocate for increased public investments in small-holder farming systems as a core element of national rural development strategies.
ILC will continue build on existing work of its members and facilitate discussion on food systems with the aim of identifying a joint approach during the new strategy period, closely linking the work on food systems to the database of good practices to show the benefit locally-controlled food systems can bring to those living on and from the land as well as society as a whole.
