Preparing for CSD11 31 January 2003 28 April 9 May 2003, United Nations, New York The next session of the Commission on Sustainable Development is scheduled from 28th of April through 9th of May 2003, at United Nations Headquarters in New York. This is the first meeting of the Commission post World Summit on Sustainable Development that took place in Johannesburg, South Africa, 26August- 4 September 2002. The focus of CSD11 is the next work programme of the Commission and the modalities with which it would monitor the success of activities taken in response to the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation, the WSSD Political Declaration as well as Agenda 21. It is expected that the main outcome of this session will be a long-term work program for the Commission as well as decisions related to the modalities it would use to monitor the implementation activities. A Secretary-General's report will be available on the CSD Secretariat's Webster at http://www.un.org/esa/sustdev by mid-February for review by all interested parties. This report will provide suggestions and recommendations on the possible work program of the Commission as well as the modalities it could use for an effective monitoring of actions taken in response to the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation. On 27 January 2003, the following Bureau was elected to lead CSD 11: Chair: Vice-Chairs: The program for the two-week meeting of CSD 11 is currently being considered by the Bureau and will be announced as soon as it is decided.
