This draft paper was aimed at guiding a panel session on land and a workshop during the CSD to catalyze collaboration between organizations leading towards CSD17 in 2009. It focuses on developing a coordinated response to increasing pressures on land use driven by new global trends such as rising food prices, agrofuels and carbon trading mechanisms. 
Securing the access rights of the many millions of households who rely on common property
for their livelihoods is one of today’s biggest challenges facing poverty reduction efforts in
rural areas. 
The International Land Coalition (ILC), Africa Regional Workshop report is a testimony to a successful inception of regionalization of ILC in Africa. The 54 members and partners meeting that took place in Nairobi, Kenya from October
30 – November 2, 2007, co-hosted by the Kenya Land Alliance, KLA with support of IFAD, the EC and Belgium Government marked a milestone in the growth of ILC collective action and working together in Africa. 
Land Watch campaign in Asia is an initiative to establish a platform for generating and sharing knowledge on strategies, approaches and tools to enhance capacities of CSOs in pursuing access to land.
