ALOP is an association of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from over twenty countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. Established in 1979, it is one of the most enduring efforts of regional integration among the NGOs of the region. ALOP is organized into three regions: the Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean (CAMEXCA) region, the Andean region and Southern Cone and Brazil.
Mission: From our origins: promote and support those initiatives coming form the NGO sector and more widely from democratic sectors of the civil society that struggle against poverty and exclusion and for the construction of a more comprehensive and sustainable human development. Since the XV general Assembly, ALOP ratified a set of values that we deem as fundamental to our action: social justice, solidarity, ethics, gender equity, respect and appreciation of differences and transparency.
Objectives:
to provide a space for meeting and exchange for its member NGOs;
to develop proposals for global and sectoral development, taking into account the expertise as existing among its affiliate;
to establish a proactive relationship with the development actors in Latin America and the Caribbean;
to raise NGOs’ effectiveness in the development process by supporting their modernization, including managerial, and sustainability;
develop dialogue and consultation capacity of civil society organizations in the region, both in instances of regional and international integration.
Activities/Main areas of work:
