How to Join ILC

Every two years, ILC members meet at their Assembly of Members, during which they vote on and approve new members. The last call for membership in 2009 increased the total number of to 83. The next Assembly of Members will take place in Albania in May/June 2011. As mandated by the ILC Coalition Council, the application process to become a new member of the Coalition is now open.

Requirements

Any organisation that shares the ILC vision and mission is, in principle, eligible to become an ILC member.

To apply for membership, an organisation should:

Complete the application form.
Gather two (2) letters of endorsement from current ILC members. For a list of ILC members, please see: Members list
Submit your complete application packet before 14 February 2011 to the ILC Secretariat focal point: Andrea Fiorenza – a.fiorenza@landcoalition.org ; info@landcoalition.org

Organisations currently underrepresented in ILC’s membership, including research and academic institutions and international NGOs, are particularly encouraged to apply. Individuals, governments, and private sector actors such as corporations are not eligible for ILC membership.

Timeline and Process

The deadline to submit all requested material is 14 February 2011 A Membership Committee, composed of ILC members who serve the ILC Coalition Council, will review the applications received and propose a list of eligible candidates to the Assembly of Members for voting on their approval. An application DOES NOT translate necessarily into acceptance. Organisations that have been accepted as members will be informed by the ILC Secretariat, on behalf of the ILC Membership and Coalition Council. As soon as they have been notified of their membership, organisations can begin exercising their membership rights. The Membership Committee will consider each application based upon its relevance to the collective nature, needs, and objectives of the Coalition and consider a number of criteria when nominating an organisation for membership, including geographical representation, the nature and diversity of the current membership, and the objectives and expertise that the organisation may bring to the collective work of the Coalition.
