CONVEAGRO was founded in 1994 as representative space where producers’ associations, civil society organizations and academics with an interest on agrarian issue could share and debate their concerns on agrarian and agrarian-related issues. CONVEAGRO is therefore a pluralistic forum for analysis, technical evaluation and democratic consultation on land and agrarian issues, which has no political party or trade union functions. CONVEAGRO promotes the strengthening of rural institutions, agricultural unions and agricultural producers’ associations, as key elements for the development of the rural sector.
Mission:
CONVEAGRO is a representative, democratic and pluralistic coordination agrarian forum whose aim is to advocate for pro-poor policies that benefit rural Peru and to provide technical assistance and capacity building services to its affiliates.
Vision
in 2017 CONVEAGRO is a democratic and pluralistic coordination forum which is highly representative of producers’ associations as well as of other agrarian-related institutions with strong presence at both national and sub-national level. It is a forum with consolidated positioning and recognition by national and international actors for its capacity to put forward proposals. It is a forum that proactively defends the interests of rural Peru. It is a forum that promotes an agrarian development that is environmental friendly, sustainable, and socially inclusive; it is a forum that contributes to the overall development of the country, to the increase of employment opportunities and to the amelioration of living standards of Peruvians, especially rural and peasant families.
Objectives:
The objectives of CONVEAGRO are defined in its Strategic Plan 2007-2017 as follow:
In a decade CONVEAGRO is a consolidated forum with a pluralistic composition, gender balanced and highly representative of the institutions related to the agrarian-issues.
In a decade it has reached an high capacity to put forward innovative, efficient and competitive proposals that benefit the rural sector
In a decade it promotes building of the capacities of its leaders, fostering gender equity and continuous renovation of its leadership
In a decade it has been able to strengthen its affiliates
It is financially viable while able to provide a variety of services to its affiliates, also through strategic partnerships
In a decade it is able to consolidate an information system that allows better communication and info sharing/accessing for its affiliates
Activities/Main areas of work:
For each of the six strategic objectives, CONVEAGRO runs some dedicated programs and related projects. Roughly they can be grouped as follow:
Program area 1: Insitutional strengthening at nacional and sub-national level
Program area 2: elaboration and dissemination of policy proposals that are favourable to the national rural sector
Program area 3: capacity building of CONVEAGRO’s leaders, at both sub-national and national levels.
Program area 4: promotion of associativeness of producers at various geographical levels
Program area 5: service providing to affiliates, as a strategy to pursue financial viability
Program area 6: Implemenattion of an efficient information technology and communications system
