To become an ILC member, your organization should meet ILC requirements. Every two years ILC members meet at their Assembly of Members and approve new members, as they completed the application process. Notwithstanding the central role of members, ILC also collaborates with a huge array of partners.
The last call in 2007 for applications to membership of the ILC brought the number of members to 65. Next Assembly of Members will take place in Nepal in April 2009. The application process to become a member is now open, as mandated by the ILC Coalition Council .
Requirements
Any organization sharing ILC vision and mission is, in principle, eligible to become an ILC member. To become a member any organization or network of organizations must fill an application form and and obtain in writing endorsement by two current members.
All material must be submitted to the Secretariat of ILC whose focal point for the membership application process is Stefano Di Gessa - s.digessa@landcoalition.org (we suggest you cc info@landcoalition.org).
A Membership Committee, composed by ILC members who serve the ILC Coalition Council, will be revising the applications received and will propose a final list of eligible candidates to the Assembly of Members for voting on their approval. An application DOES NOT translate necessarily into acceptance. Organizations that have been accepted as members will be informed accordingly by the Secretariat of the ILC, on behalf of the ILC Membership and Coalition Council. As soon as they have been notified of their membership, organizations can start exercising their membership rights (see timeline below).
The Membership Committee will consider each application based upon its relevance to the collective nature, needs, and objectives of the Coalition and consider a number of criteria when nominating an organization for membership, including the geographical representation, the nature and diversity of the current membership, and the objectives and expertise that the organization may bring to the collective work of the Coalition.
In particular, organisations currently underrepresented in ILC’s membership, including research/academic institutions working on issues related to land and International NGOs are encouraged to apply.
