LandNet West Africa (LNWA)is a non for profit association concerned with the promotion of prudent, equitable use and management of land resources through research and influencing national and regional policies and programmes geared towards ensuring secured and sustainable livelihoods and guaranteed food security and human development in the region.
Mission:
The LandNet West Africa originates from a set of processes engaged in the Sub-Region after the 1990s. Its broad objective is to gradually build up consensus around efficient and equitable land policies in the interest of all stakeholders including sustainable development.
Objectives:
Exchange information on land issues and share experiences at local, national and sub regional level on land management.
Produce knowledge on land issues (documenting local land
dynamics, realising national and sub regional omparative studies…) and promote African expertise on land policy.
Contribute to capacity building in land policies in West Africa.
Influence public policies, by promoting national and sub
regional land policy dialogues involving all stakeholders,lobbying for the integration of land issues in main policy documents (PRSPs…), monitoring the implementation of land policy and land laws at national level
Activities/Main areas of work:
The following have been identified as the main activities for LandNet West Africa when it was launched in February 2001:
Strengthen existing national networks and assist in creating land networks in countries in which there are no networks;
Collect and disseminate information on the respective national networks;
Identify topics of common interest with a view to organizing a regional meeting;
Establish and develop contacts with other sub-regional networks ( East Africa and Southern Africa ) and with development partners;
Develop initiatives aimed at raising funds for the implementation of the network activities.
