Benin is predominantly agricultural country, it becomes imperative to take action to secure stability and security of agricultural activities, a guarantee of economic growth.
The World Bank, one of the technical and financial assets from developing countries, having realized the role that land plays in reducing poverty, has launched training modules on “land policies and the reduction of poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa” in January, February and March 2006. These courses aim at strengthening the capacity of the expertise of ther participating countries to facilitate the integration of land policies in rural development strategies in the context of decentralization for the well-being. Participants from Benin to the number of twenty eight (28) come from a variety of structures including: government, local government, civil society organizations, research institutions, etc..
These various actors have been for three successive sessions, school land issues in sub-Saharan Africa and share their experiences with experts who have worked in many international institutions on the issue of land in other continents. After their training, and in accordance with the recommendations of the World Bank, Beninese participants have established out on 16 September 2006, the Benin network for land tenure and sustainable land management (ReBeSeF/CGT) in order an optimal use of natural resources including land is an essential component.
Mission:
ReBeSeF/CGT has the mission to work for the awakening of conscience, the harmonisation of land policy to a more healthy and sustainable land.
Vision:
The vision of Benin Network for land tenure and sustainable land management (ReBeSeF/CGT) is to be a framework for reflection, research, training, information, education and communication on the issue of land (urban and rural) and sustainable land management.
Objectives:
Contribute to the improvement and implementation of the legal framework of land;
To contribute ideas to the emergence of the institutional framework on land;
Raise the awareness of administrative authorities, traditional landowners on the importance of security of land;
Popularizing texts and laws governing land tenure;
Engage in education activities directed at populations in order to engage in a logic of peaceful and cooperative land conflicts;
To promote the integration by the government authorities of dimension of land tenure security in cooperation programs in particular as regards the recovery of the agricultural sector;
Initiate and conduct research to better understanding of the dynamics of land and assessment of effects and impacts of activities undertaken in the area of land;
To work for the inclusion of gender in access to land and financial resources in the context of agricultural activities.
