SARRA was established in May 1984 with a view to function as a training resource agency in South Asia for enhancing the capabilities of grassroots rural development agencies for promoting participatory, integrated and sustainable development practices for achieving peoples’ empowerment.
Mission:
To develop knowledge and insights related to the guiding philosophies, frameworks and strategies for achieving sustainable development of underdeveloped countries; enhance knowledge and skills for building working partnership with rural communities and design strategies for participatory planning, implementation, monitoring, feedback and evaluation.
Activities/Main areas of work:
SARRA focuses its work on research and assists in training on such agricultural practices that could bring a positive change in the life of food insecure people.
Over time SARRA has organised a series of training courses, including:
(i) Regional Leadership Training(RLT) programmes for development professionals in South Asia, mainly on rural development;
(ii) training on regenerative agricultural practices;
(iii) micro-enterprise development through agriculture training and (iv) other training activities in Nepal and Kerala on community-level food security and sustainable agriculture both at community level and with universities.
