SDF is a humanist organisation working to impart scientific education among people to eradicate superstition and myths regarding women and vulnerable sections of the society. Agrarian reform with a gender sensitivity is one of the prime focus of SDF apart from right to food, secular values and development of scientific temper among the community they are working with, such as tribals, Dalits, women, minorities and other backward communities in India like fishermen, scavengers and women from Muslim community.
Objectives:
The objectives driving SDF work over the last ten years have been:
Human rights education to the masses particularly Dalits, Adivasis, women and minorities in the rural areas through Panchayati Raj; the development of young trainers.
Raising violations of the human rights of the rural poor; rights advocacy and campaigning.
Sustainable development through an environmentally friendly and participatory approach
Focusing on right to food, natural resource management, rights of physically disabled and other marginalized through highlighting their cases in the media;
Bringing success stories of women, Dalits, physically challenged people to light through media and documentation
Documenting cases of human rights violation in India as well as other parts of the Indian subcontinent and making of documentary films on such violations as well as on successful land rights stories to create awareness;
Empowering women through education and technical training programmes;
Providing legal aid to victims of violence on the marginalized sections of society, particularly women, and;
Supporting the networking of the grassroots organizations.
