Accompanying beneficiaries of land redistribution with economic instruments
In 1994, the government of the Philippines launched the 'Task Force Sugarland' to fast track agrarian reform of large sugarcane landholdings. As more land was redistributed, it became clear that the beneficiaries of the land redistribution also needed economic support for the redistribution to be sustainable. Therefore, CARRD organised farmers in Western Batangas in a credit cooperative. Today, the credit cooperative provides financial services to more than 500 farmers and non-farmers. It also has its own muscovado milling centre, organic input processing centre, demo farm, and vinegar and wine production centre.
