Position Title: Focus on Land in Africa Communications and Outreach Specialist

Status: Part Time Project Employee (up to 32 hours per week, 2 years)

Location: Seattle, WA

Classification: Exempt (Not Eligible for Overtime Pay)

Date: January 2012

Job Summary:  The Focus on Land in Africa (FoLA) Communications and Outreach Specialist will act as a champion for the Focus on Land in Africa sustainable education tool project (http://www.wri.org/property-rights-africa/) by leading the implementation of its communication and outreach strategy. The Specialist will market the tool to development practitioners and government policymaker users, advance the site’s profile and reputation among those users, develop funding sources to sustain the project for the long-term, recruit expert external contributors to write lessons for the identified target countries, and locate an ultimate host organization for the site. The Specialist will coordinate with the project technology lead to coordinate branding and press releases, and develop workshop/conference media materials.

Reporting and relationships: The Communications and Outreach Specialist reports to the Africa Program Director along with the Program Land Tenure Associate and will have key relationships with external partners, funders and internal and external project contributors.

Availability:  The FoLA Communications and Outreach Specialist will be expected to work up to 32 hours per week,and additional hours when necessary to get the job done. The position will require approximately 25% travel, domestically and internationally.
