| Aims and objectives: |
- Empower communities to engage with land reform processes to meet their needs.
- Promote and protect the interests of women and the poorest within the groups with which AFRA works.
- Network with other organizations to lobby for a just, equitable and effective land reform programme for the benefit of our target groupw ithin an integrated rural development framework.
|
| Programmes and Activities: |
- Externally defined programme and project implementation work
The defining feature of this work is that we are open to entering into contracts to implement land reform projects. However, we have a set of selection criteria, which projects must satisfy, including that they are consistent with our mission statement.
- Internally defined project work
The projects aim to highlight, and contribute to the filling of critical gaps and eliminating weaknesses in land reform programmes. These are projects that are identified by AFRA as work that is not being done and yet is necessary if our vision is to be realised. This is done through specific projects or research. Though part of our ongoing work, they will be time bound and specific. They will not necessarily be undertaken to earn income.
- Community Empowerment Programme
Services provided by this programme are:
- Training of community structures;
- Building and strengthening community structures;
- Providing information to communities around policy and implementation issues;
- Facilitating the formation of a rural social movement;
- Facilitating community networking around common issues
- Facilitating collaboration and coordination of organisations working at district level;
- Facilitating joint community campaigns;
- Giving advice on land issues;
- Putting communities in touch with other role players who are able to provice resources.
All of the above are informed by the the following programmes: Redistribution, Restitution and Tenure Reform.
The Rural Women's Movement Project (RWM):
Although AFRA's primary focus is on land reform and sustainable development, it is understood that the Rural Women's Movement will address broader issues related to women.
The AFRA vision statement sets out our commitment to empowering rural women. We believe that in order to promote equality between men and women we need to involve ourselves in the needs, concerns, and interests raised by rural women.
Financial Administration and Information Technology
AFRA also contracts out services in financial administration and information technology.
