| Objectives: |
A major goal of CEPES is to operationalize a network on agrarian reform in the region which would serve not only to influence policy, public opinion and civil society but would also provide farmers' organizations and indigenous peoples, with the opportunity to access knowledge and relevant information to solve problems they face with regard to land access. |
| CEPES Programmes and Activities: |
Research and information dissemination. CEPES is concerned with creating and disseminating information and knowledge through publications, magazines, electronic bulletins and radio broadcasts. It has a regular monthly journal, Debate Agrario: Analisis y Alternativas and a magazine La Revista Agraria focused on land reform and rural development issues. Furthermore, it has a strong research and policy expertise and knowledge of how to effectively influence public policy, which can provide vital lessons for other civil-society organizations which are similarly involved.
Capacity building of rural communities. The new liberal agrarian legislation in Peru has faced rural communities - with the dilemma of whether or not to privatize communal lands. CEPES is working with communities in the southern Peruvian Andes to design methodologies and procedures to permit them to solve the complex problems of the rights of the comunera families over communal lands, the statutory regularization of communal lands, and solving boundary disputes.
Networking and linking with the grassroots and other civil- society organizations. It has strong grassroots affiliation and serves a central leadership role in numerous civil-society networks throughout the region. |
