CNIRD is an independent regional NGO launched in Jamaica in March 1988. The following countries are represented - Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago.

Their mission is to promote sustainable and environmentally sound development, through consultation with and the involvement of communities and their relevant entities, in order to improve the quality of life in rural areas and the well-being of Caribbean people.

Information and Communication:

Providing information relevant to the development of Caribbean rural communities and creation effective techniques for information dissemination and exchange.

Capacity Building:

Creating opportunities to increase knowledge, skills and techniques for increased employment and the promotion of entrepreneurship towards poverty alleviation in rural communities.

The Environment:-

Sensitizing and building the capacity of rural communities to respond positively to environmental challenges and promoting interactive participatory approaches in the implementation of environment conventions.
