| Description: |
Set up in 1990, FENACOOP is a third-level cooperative working at the national level whose members are first and second-level agricultural co-operatives, representing almost half the cooperatives in the country. The co-operative sector handles 52 percent of agricultural production in the country and as an organization resulting from the struggle of farmers, the federation is characterized by values arising from three sources; that of farmers which places great importance on the land; co-operativist values of democratic participation and collective action, and lastly militant values arising from a common historical struggle. |

Programmes and Activities |
Capacity Building: A goal of FEENACOOP is to use the information collected from and about civil-society organizations to launch capacity-building programmes for farmer communities. Because of the lack of awareness of land legislation, it organizes and conducts legal awareness and training programmes in this area.
Linking farmers to financial network: In response to the lack of credit access in the rural areas, FENACOOP has initiated a savings and credit programme and network that provides guarantees so that small producers and micro-entrepreneurs, who otherwise cannot borrow from formal financial institutions, are able to do so by linking six banks with initially six communities. |
