The Coalition at ECOSOC 2003

The theme of the High Level Segment of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) held in Geneva in 30 June–25 July 2003 was on 'Promoting an Integrated Approach to Rural Development in Developing Countries for Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development.'

The Coalition delegation:

The official delegation of the International Land Coalition at the ECOSOC High Level Segment held on 30 June–2 July 2003 in Palais des Nations, Geneva comprised two staff from the Coalition Secretariat (Rome), Bruce Moore and Jing de la Rosa; and three Coalition partners, Harriet Busingye (Uganda Land Alliance), Byron Garoz (Coordinación de ONG y Cooperativas, Guatemala) and Nathaniel Don Marquez (Asian NGO Coalition, The Philippines).

International Land Coalition Events at ECOSOC

The Coalition had direct responsibility in three events around the ECOSOC.

  1. The Coalition delegates participated at the NGO Forum to ECOSOC convened by the Conference of NGOs in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations (CONGO) which was held on 27 June 2003 in Palais des Nation, Geneva.   

Harriet Busingye, Byron Garoz and Bruce Moore were invited as panellists in three different sessions of the one-day NGO Forum. Summary Report of the NGO Forum prepared by CONGO PDF 86KB  

  1. The International Land Coalition, in conjunction with IFAD (Technical Advisory Division), organized an International workshop on Integrated Approaches Towards Gender, Land and Water on Sunday, June29 2002.   Background and overview of the Workshop

    The Workshop was attended by 20 representatives from NGOs, intergovernmental organizations and donor agencies. See attached participants' list. A set of recommendations produced by the workshops, was presented to the delegates of the High Level Segment.   Recommendations
  1. In conjunction with IFAD, the Coalition hosted the Ministerial Roundtable Breakfast, an official ECOSOC event, on 1 July 2003.

    The Issues Paper prepared by the Coalition, in consultation with IFAD, served as a background document to the Roundtable.
