The European Union's draft Land Policy Guidelines

In March 2004, the ILC facilitated an electronic consultation on the EU's draft Land Policy Guidelines. While these guidelines had been under development since 2002, this was the first formal opportunity for civil-society organizations to participate in the process and give voice to community-level experiences related to land. Intergovernmental agencies were also invited to participate in the consultation, in line with the EU's mandate to improve coordination at the intergovernmental level through this new policy.

Comments were received from about 30 organizations and individuals, including 12 from civil-society groups in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The ILC submitted a consolidated report on these comments to the EU Task Force on Land Tenure on 18 March 2004.
