The International Forum on Partnerships for Sustainable Development took place in March at FAO Headquarters in Rome.  This global meeting examined the status of multi-stakeholder partnerships established at the World Summit for Sustainable Development (WSSD), held in South Africa in August 2002, addressing the challenges and opportunities of implementing sustainable development goals and innovations in technology and knowledge transfer through partnerships.  More than 200 partnerships for sustainable development were launched during the WSSD by governments, UN agencies and UN system major groups, civil-society organizations and other institutions. The ILC's Land Alliances for National Development, or "LAND Partnerships" initiative, was among these partnerships. The 2004 Partnerships Forum was hosted by the Italian Ministry for the Environment and Territory in cooperation with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
