Inscripciones para el III Foro Social Américas
Espacio de intercambio: Consejo Hemisférico Américas La preparación del tercer Foro Social Américas avanza con el aporte de organizaciones, redes y entidades del hemisferio y del país sede. Se abre ahora la fase de inscripción de eventos autogestionados, que constituyen la columna vertebral del programa del Foro.
En este marco, es grato convocar a las organizaciones, movimientos y entidades de la sociedad que adhieren a los postulados de la Carta de Principios del FSM, a inscribir sus iniciativas de eventos autogestionados a realizarse durante el III Foro Social Américas, que tendrá lugar en Universidad de San Carlos, Ciudad de Guatemala, del 7 al 12 de octubre de 2008.

About 400 civil society organisations gathered in Accra on ocassion of the Third High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness are calling for concrete commitments and action from donors and recipient governments that will have a real impact on the world's poor. The High Level Forum from 2-4 September will review progress on the reforms outlined in the Paris Declaration, signed between donors and recipient countries.

XVII International AIDS Conference
The eyes of the world will soon turn to Mexico City where the XVII International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2008) will take place in early August. The conference will draw around 25,000 participants from across the globe, including many world-renowned leaders and experts in their field. There are also many interesting satellite events, including the following that address women's property rights specifically: - Securing Women and Children's Property Rights in the Era of HIV/AIDS - organised by FAO, UNIFEM, UNDP, Huairou Commission, IFPRI, Groots Kenya

- Macroeconomic Policies and the Feminization of the AIDS Epidemic - organised by UNIFEM and UNDP
- Gender and HIV: Emerging Issues - an oral abstract session with presentations of experiences from Zimbabwe, Congo, and Ghana

Le Forum des Peuples se tiendra à Koulikoro au Mali (Afrique) du 06 au 09 juillet 2008 en contrepoint au sommet du G8 qui se tiendra au Japon. A workshop on the "Organisation of Pastoralists to Defend their Land Rights" was held by WISP (World Initiative for Sustainable Pastoralism), bringing together the authors of a case studies covering countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America to discuss the key issues and identify commonalities.
The case studies are the core of a knowledge management project entitled Pastoralist Organisation for Resource Rights Project that WISP is carrying out with national network partners and with support from the ILC, with the main goal of demystifying the process of securing resource rights in pastoral areas. A full workshop report by WISP is forthcoming shortly.

Uncharted territory: Land, conflict and humanitarian action: report of a conference

Summarises the main presentations by Alex de Waal, John Unruh, Liz Alden Wily and Chris Huggins and responses by discussants based on these broad topics: why humanitarian organisations need to tackle land issues; legal pluralisms in humanitarian approaches; land in emergency to development transitions: who does what?; land in return, reintegration and recovery processes; transitional programming; protection and legal aid.

The second global meeting of the Farmers' Forum, organized by IFAD, took place on 11 and 12 February 2008. The Forum brought together about 80 farmers' leaders from around the world to (i) review progress achieved in enhancing collaboration between IFAD and farmers' and rural producers' organizations; (ii) discuss IFAD strategic and policy documents and (iii)share positions on the following three critical issues for the future of smallholder family agriculture such as access to natural resources, climate change and policy making and policy influence.
