Religious join farmers in hunger strike
MANILA, Philippines - Two Catholic bishops and several nuns and priests have joined farmers in their hunger strike to urge Congress to extend the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program, whose effectivity will end this month.

The All Party Parliamentary Group on Agriculture and Food for Development launched an enquiry to examine whether the UK is meeting its current commitments for addressing issues of global food security.
They are inviting submissions according to a number of questions, including
What are the global challenges faced in relation to Land use, reform and availability?

ILC members and partners are invited to take this opportunity to promote a strong focus on land tenure security for small-scale producers in meeting global food security.

“Market of Lands. New struggles and stress on the land for the development of alternative activities".

Currently, the ILC is supporting a Research Platform in Latin America, in order to collect information about different topics related to land issues. Within this framework, the ILC is launching a research contest in Latin America about “Market of Lands. New struggles and stress on the land for the development of alternative activities".

Regarding the contest:

- The ILC will grant five research fellowships, each one of $5,000.00
- The call is open to all ILC members, partners, affiliates and other institutions related to the labor of the ILC in Latin America.
- The deadline to submit proposals is March 27th, 2009.

The project proposals must be sent to:

“Mercados de tierras. Nueva competencias y presión sobre la tierra por el desarrollo de actividades alternativas".

La ILC se encuentra impulsando una Plataforma de Investigación a nivel de América Latina. En el marco de esta Plataforma, la ILC lanza un concurso de investigación en la región sobre "Mercados de tierras”. Nuevas competencias y presión sobre la tierra por el desarrollo de actividades alternativas.

Información sobre el concurso:

- Se asignarán cinco becas de investigación de $5,000.00 cada una.
- La convocatoria está abierta a miembros, socios, afiliados y otras instituciones vinculadas al quehacer de la ILC en la región.
- La fecha límite para presentar propuestas es el 27 de marzo de 2009.

Las propuestas deberán ser enviadas a:

ILC is supporting the Platform on Women's Access to Land in Latin America. Within  this  framework,  the ILC is launching a research contest in Latin America on the following issues:

- Laws and regulations related to women's rights to land and natural resources
- Role of women in rural economy and food security
- Rural women and access to the property of land

Regarding the contest:
- The ILC will grant five research fellowships, each one of $5,000.00
- Proposals have to focus on one of the three research issues above.
- Contest is open to ILC  members and partners, as well as to organizations with experience in social research.

La ILC se encuentra impulsando una Plataforma sobre Mujeres y Acceso a la Tierra en América Latina. En el marco de esta Plataforma, la ILC lanza un concurso de investigación en la región sobre los siguientes temas:

- Normas y regulaciones que rigen los derechos de las mujeres en torno a la tierra y los recursos naturales.
- Papel de la mujer en la economía rural y en la soberanía alimentaria.
- Mujeres rurales y acceso a la propiedad de la tierra.


Información sobre el concurso:
- Se asignarán seis becas de investigación de $5,000.00 cada una.
- Las propuestas deberán tratar alguno de los tres temas planteados.
- La convocatoria está abierta a miembros y socios de la ILC y a instituciones con experiencia en investigación social.
- La fecha límite para presentar propuestas es el 17 de abril de 2009.

The first learning road on "participatory cartography and legal assistance for land conflict resolution" is taking place 7-14 march.

Land researches have been sponsored by ILC during 2008 in the frame of different activities. Two cases studies have been documented in Nicaragua: the experience of the Commission of local development CODER in irrigation systems as a way to facilitate land access and the experience of the Farmer Union of San Dionisio UCOSD on land access through long-term leasing contracts.

On 30 January 2009, an ILC Research Contest has been launched. The deadline for the submission of research projects is the 20 of February 2009; five papers will be selected to be developed with ILC support on “impact of land transactions in a new frame of commercial pressure on land”
