Agriculture touches down across the global biodiversity framework. But the level of ambition on agriculture does not come up to the level of attention. How can this gap be addressed?
Agriculture is getting a lot of attention, through the UN Food Systems Summit, at UNCCD COP15 earlier this year, at COP27, and across multiple targets of the global biodiversity framework. For the CBD, there are agriculture opportunities around ecosystems restoration, reduction of harmful runoff, and sustainable management of working lands. How can these targets be addressed? Both individually and holistically? What indicators are necessary to ensure we are driving toward transformational change? How can we partner with agricultural practitioners to ensure we are leveraging their knowledge and expertise, while delivering shared benefits?
