ABOUT THE EVENT
The climate crisis demands we transition away from fossil fuels to renewable forms of energy. The transition minerals that power green technologies such as wind turbines and electric vehicles are at the centre of a global tug-of-war between powerful nation states and international corporations.
Communities in ʻproducerʼ countries with vast deposits of transition minerals find themselves at the mercy of unscrupulous mining corporations, investors and governments determined to profit from the green energy revolution.
On behalf of a group of activists from Latin America, Africa and Asia, we would like to invite you to a Listening Session in which we will share the everyday realities of communities affected by transition mineral extraction. We will call for the extractive industry to be held accountable for the damaging environmental and social impact they have on communities and advocate for the voice of communities in determining their future role in the just energy transition.
The world cannot switch from one industry of extraction and exploitation to another. Instead, we must move towards a just and equitable energy transition that benefits all people and the planet.
