Mission
Sida is a government agency working on behalf of the Swedish parliament and government, with the mission to reduce poverty in the world. Through our work and in cooperation with others, we contribute to implementing Sweden's Policy for Global Development (PGU).
Objectives
Sida works in order to implement the Swedish development policy that aims to enable poor people to improve their lives. Another part of Sida's mission is conducting reform cooperation with Eastern Europe, which is financed through a specific appropriation. The third part of Sida's assignment is to distribute humanitarian aid to people in need of assistance.
Sida is committed to enabling people to get a better life. The individual person is always the focus of Sida's work. The overall objective of Swedish development cooperation is to ensure that people living in poverty and under oppression have the ability to improve their living conditions. To carry out this mission in an effective and strategic way, Sida works broadly across several sectors.
