Who we are
The Indigenous Peoples’ Global Platform (IP Platform) of the International Land Coalition was established in 2022 at the Global Land Forum in Jordan. Our objective is to build and amplify a common voice for Indigenous Peoples within the ILC network to ensure tenure security for
our Peoples worldwide, and act in solidarity on the multiple challenges faced by our Peoples every day. Currently, 32 ILC Members from across the globe have committed to a common vision and are part of the IP Platform.

AS INDIGENOUS PEOPLES WE HAVE A WIDE RANGE OF CONCERNS, INCLUDING:
The right to self-determination, and securing land and territorial rights
Coming together and mobilising against the displacement, oppression and forceful evictions of our Peoples.
The importance of our territorial security is intrinsically linked to Indigenous Peoples’ meaningful participation in decision-making processes, especially when addressing our land and territorial rights, climate change, biodiversity loss, land degradation, and ensuring food sovereignty.
Preserving Indigenous Traditional Occupations, Knowledge and Practices and empowering our youth is how we envision combatting the destruction of our lands and territories and protecting our Indigenous Human Rights Defenders.
Spaces we want to influence
The Global Platform operates as a collective effort, with Indigenous Peoples’ member organisations actively participating, contributing their expertise, and influencing decision-making processes. Through consultations, regional engagement, and advocacy efforts, the IP Platform ensures Indigenous Peoples’ voices are heard.
Our goal is to influence the following:
GLOBAL ADVOCACY SPACES
We are actively participating and engaging in global advocacy spaces such as:
- United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII)
- United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)
- Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)
- United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD)
- other relevant spaces to advocate for Indigenous Peoples’ rights, land tenure security, and the recognition of Indigenous Knowledge Systems.

Fundraising
The IP Platform actively seeks fundraising opportunities to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of our activities, initiatives, and advocacy.
Empowerment of Indigenous Peoples’ organisations
We empower other organisations by ensuring their access to tools and opportunities to secure their territorial rights, including how to collect, monitor and leverage land data.
Advocacy against human rights violations
Together we stand against violations faced by indigenous peoples’ leaders and the criminalisation of land defenders. We call for measures to protect our Peoples and their lands.

How we operate
The IP Platform is guided by one Indigenous youth representative and four regional Co-Chairs who represent Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia, Africa, and Europe, Middle East and North Africa. The platform is also represented in the Council by an Indigenous member representative. The Indigenous Working Group for Indigenous Affairs (IWGIA) has been invited as an observer and long-time ally to its proceedings.
The first group of representatives was elected at the Global Land Forum (GLF) in Jordan in 2022. The next group of Co-Chairs will be elected at ILCs next GLF in 2025.
As representatives, we work with the IP Platform members to:
1. Ensure meaningful engagement and representation
Commitment to actively engage with Indigenous members and guarantee their voices are heard and represented in critical local, regional and global decision-making spaces within the network.
2. Organize constituency meetings
Foster collaboration and strengthen the collective voice of Indigenous members through the organisation of constituency meetings, providing a platform for dialogue and coordination.
3. Facilitate engagement with non-Indigenous members
Efforts will be made to facilitate engagement between Indigenous and non-Indigenous ILC Members, enhancing the impact of collective advocacy in support of concrete outcomes on the ground.
