We’re looking for a creative and agile content communications coordinator to lead communications for ILC Asia. The selected candidate will help tell stories from the network and ensure ILC and its members stand out in a world where land rights are often overlooked. ABOUT ILC
The International Land Coalition is a global alliance of civil society and intergovernmental organisations working together to put people at the centre of land governance. The shared goal of ILC's 300+ members is to realise land governance for and with people at the country level, responding to the needs and protecting the rights of women, men and communities who live on and from the land. In Asia, LC has currently 59 members spread across 14 Asian countries.
The Asia Communications Coordinator will work as part of the Asia Regional Coordination Unit and ILC global team reporting directly to the Asia Regional Coordinator & the Global Communications Coordinator to amplify the voice and achievements of members through innovative communications, position and give visibility to the importance of securing land rights, and to strengthen the communication strategies and capacities of our African-based members.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the implementation of the ILC communications plan for Asia
- Update/implement the Regional Communications Plan (2022-2030), in line with the 2022-30 communications strategy and budget
- Carry out annual communications planning exercise with corporate and operational colleagues to contribute to streamlined workflow, in line with ILC’s communications objectives; monitor progress and adjust mid-year
- Manage ILC Asia brand, ensuring proper usage and approach of ILC branding guidelines within the network
- Contribute to ILC Asia resource mobilisation efforts through effective communications (branding and visibility)
Provide technical guidance/support to ILC Asia platforms
- Support the development and effective implementation of communications strategies from National Land Coalitions and Regional Platforms to tell their stories, with a special focus on human interest stories coming out of the contribution analysis
- Provide technical advice and guidance in the area of communications to ILC Asia member-led Platforms/Programs
- Support the uptake of ILC’s branding and visual identity in platforms (where applicable)
Communicate ILC Asia’s key messages and results, while increasing visibility through media partnerships and audience outreach, including within the ILC network
- Write, edit and coordinate the production for the full range of ILC communications products, including web articles, success stories, blogs, and press releases
- In consultation with the ILC team, develop strong, clear and concise media messages and deliver them through appropriate means such as interviews, events, media briefings, and story placements
- Develop and maintain relationships with journalists and leading media outlets in Asia and internationally
- Pitch stories and op-eds to newswires and media outlets in Asia and internationally
- Stay reactive to current events and media trends. Identify storytelling opportunities to promote land rights, ILC Asia and the work of ILC Asia members
- Together with the Communications Team, launch an ambassador programme to increase visibility
- Conduct an internal network outreach campaign to increase the number of members included in ILC’s contact database
- Working with the ILC team to identify and support global and regional campaigns that reflect the objectives of ILC Asia’s communications plan
Lead content curation and management across ILC Asia social media and digital platforms
- Oversee production and dissemination of quality corporate and programmatic materials, including monthly newsletter, annual reports, knowledge publications, brochures, fact sheets, and audio-visual materials
- Manage ILC Asia’s social media accounts and website; promote ILC good practices and members’ work
- Measure our digital engagement through analytics, at least twice per year
Coordinate communications support team/service providers, including writers, editors, translators, proof-readers and designers, printers
Other duties / Support to Knowledge Management & Learning and Gender Justice
- Support the planning and implementation of regional Knowledge management and learning
- Support the Learning team by ensuring the team’s priorities align with the interests of Asia members. This may include reviewing work proposals, advising on topics and members, and supporting the implementation of the Learning work plan
QUALIFICATIONS / PRECONDITIONS:
- At least a bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in communications, journalism or other related social sciences study areas
- At least 3 years of experience working for International Organisations with similar responsibilities
- Experience in web-publishing, social media and web-based editorial
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex policy issues into accessible products
- Demonstrable creativity and a flair for identifying interesting and newsworthy stories and successfully pitching them to a range of media outlets
- Proficiency with the technical aspects of producing and distributing digital media content, and experience in engaging audiences through effective management of social media channels and tools
- Excellent computer literacy, with familiarity with common content management software (Wordpress, Django), information technologies and web-based analytical tools (Sprout Social, Google Analytics, Mailchimp)
- Ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary and multicultural team
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, multitask and work under pressure to meet individual project needs
- Being familiar with ILC and/or other land rights organizations is a strong asset
- Experience in working for a regional or global network is desirable
- Ability to travel regionally and globally, if and when needed
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT:
Fluency in English, knowledge of an Asian language is an asset
