Last month, the Global Witness released their 2018 report on land and environment defenders. Sadly, 14 land defenders were killed in Africa in 2018 and several others criminalised for defending their land and our environment.
One year after the landmark victory against the government of Kenya, the Indigenous Ogiek Peoples will come together on May 26 to reflect on the lessons learnt and groom support to make the next steps successful.

ILC Africa member, Ogiek Peoples’ Development Program (OPDP) held a workshop in Arusha, Tanzania on October 2-4 to strengthen the capacity of Indigenous Peoples’ (IPs) organisations in Africa to advocate for the implementation of Access and Benefit-Sharing (ABS) mechanisms and Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC).
