A Guide to ILC's Commitments
Our shared commitments to achieve land governance for and with people
Across the diversity of ILC’s network of over 200 civil society and intergovernmental organisations, our members have defined a common goal. PEOPLE-CENTRED LAND GOVERNANCE responds to the needs, and protects the rights, of the women, men and communities who live on and from the land, respecting that they should be the ultimate decision‑makers on how their land and natural resources are used.
To guide our individual and collective efforts to achieve land governance for and with people, ILC’s members agreed on 10 COMMITMENTS in priority areas of action. The 10 commitments are an expression of our common vision, and guide ILC’s work at all levels of action under our Strategy for 2016‑21. They provide a benchmark in working towards the realisation of the Voluntary Guidelines for Responsible Governance of Tenure (VGGTs) and other internationally agreed instruments. They are a compass for our work, and we hope that they also provide a useful focus to others with a transformative agenda on land rights.
