WEBINAR - Transforming community-investor negotiations
On February 20, you’re invited to a free webinar on how basic legal support can help communities defend themselves against outright land grabs, negotiate equitable terms if they do choose to welcome investments, and seek enforcement if those terms are violated.
Namati and the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment (CCSI) recently launched two guides that provide front line advocates and community members with concrete, practical strategies to understand and defend their land rights.
These guides work in two parts:
Guide 1 supports communities to prepare themselves before investors arrive. This includes developing a clear vision for the future, assessing the value of their lands and resources, and crafting fully-inclusive decision-making processes around investments.
Guide 2 is designed for communities who have agreed to negotiate with potential investors. It includes guidance on protective clauses to include in a contract, problematic language to avoid, and tactics to ensure communities can negotiate clear, fair, and equitable agreements with investors.
On February 20, please join the webinar led by the guides’ authors to discuss how these resources can support and strengthen community land protection.
