National Land Use Plans – Opportunities and Challenges on Promoting Good Land Governance in South Asia
Land is important in Asian Region, as 34 percent of the world's agricultural area is located here. South Asia is a region which is still rich in natural forests and biodiversity resources. It is the home of 80 percent of the world's small-scale farmers and producers. While there may be disparities in current levels of economic development, the economy of this region is heavily dependent on agriculture. A majority of the farmers are still considered as the socio-economic strata living below poverty, sincethe main source of production- land-is not in their hands.
