coordinator of LandMark
David Garcia, PhD (he/they) is the coordinator of LandMark, the global platform of Indigenous and community lands. He is a Kapampangan and Tagalog geographer, planner, and mapmaker from the Philippines. In 2024, David graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in Geography, focusing on participatory mapping, at the University of Canterbury in Aotearoa New Zealand, where he is currently based. Previously, he studied a Master of Science in Geospatial Analysis at University College London with a Chevening Scholarship. Also, he has a Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning and a Bachelor of Science in Geography from the University of the Philippines. In the past decade, David has worked for international organisations such as UN-Habitat, The Asia Foundation, London School of Economics and Political Science, and the Macmillan Brown Centre for Pacific Studies, specialising in the intersection of environment, crises, human rights, and the digital. His most recent field experience has been in post-disaster and post-war recovery, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and resilience, while dedicating his work to and being in solidarity with marginalised and dispossessed peoples.
