Millions of Adivasi and forest dwellers face eviction

On 13 February, 2019 the Supreme Court of India ordered the evictions of indigenous peoples and forest dwellers in more than 16 states. The decision effectively rejects the claims of forest dwellers to use, manage and govern their native forests, according to the Forest Rights Act. If this were to be implemented, it could lead to the eviction of more than 2 million families. While the decision has been temporarily suspended by the Indian Government, it may yet go ahead. This video and legal brief (from Land Forum India) explain the current situation, and what is at stake for neglected forest communities.

Des investisseurs accaparent une île entière en Indonésie pour y développer un projet touristique, chassant la communauté et détruisant la société locale

Des centaines de familles sont menacées d'expulsion de l'île de Pari, en Indonésie, afin de convertir l’intégralité de l'île en une station balnéaire privée. Cette île formée de 42,5 hectares de nature préservée est leur lieu de vie depuis des générations et ils ont joué un rôle clé dans la protection de son écosystème fragile de mangroves et de récifs coralliens, essentiels à la lutte contre le changement climatique. Aujourd'hui, tout cela est menacé, mais la communauté de 300 familles de pêcheurs refuse d'abandonner et se mobilise pour sauver Pulau Pari.
