India

The year 2026 stands at a powerful intersection of global priorities, marked as the International Year of Women’s Rights and the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists. These themes resonate deeply with the ongoing work of NLC India and its member organisations, who continue to advocate for equitable, sustainable, and community-centred land governance. Building on the momentum of the previous year , where cross-state learning, coalition building, and grassroots engagement were strengthened despite systemic constraints, the need now is to deepen these efforts with sharper policy engagement, increased visibility, and stronger alliances. At a time when climate change is intensifying vulnerabilities—especially for women, pastoralists, and forest-dependent communities—there is an urgent need to centre climate justice within land governance frameworks. Land is not just a resource; it is identity, survival, and resilience.
