What we do
Equipping tomorrow’s leaders from within the network to challenge the status quo in their land rights struggles.
ILC seeks to empower and harness the potential of youth to bring about transformation towards people-centred land governance. In 2018, ILC launched the Leadership Programme in Africa, Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean as a space for emergent women and men leaders from ILC grassroots organisations. The program aims to develop their skills to lead social change and take on leadership roles within their organisations and in the life and work of ILC. It also provides member organisations an opportunity to examine and renew their leadership methods. The programme also aims to help them become more resilient, effective and inclusive organisations. A collective view of leadership, solidarity and gender justice are at the foundation of the programme.
It consists of 3 dimensions which shape the learning approach —individual, organisational and networking leadership.
By the end of 2019, the programme has gathered 104 people (58% women) from 63 members and from 53 countries worldwide.
Effective leadership has already begun to emerge with youth and women advocating for their needs and leading change for more inclusive and diverse decision-making structures. Members are increasingly working together and supporting communities of practice. Having young ILC leaders playing key roles within the Coalition is expected for 2020-2021.
