ABOUT THE EVENT
The shift to a low-carbon future is transforming landscapes around the world. Yet while debates often focus on emissions, technology, and investment, less attention has been paid to the land needed to power the transition.
Join us for the launch of a new global report that sheds light on the territorial dimensions of renewable energy and transition mineral development, and explores what they mean for Indigenous Peoples, local communities, land governance, and climate action. The report provides a critical baseline assessment of the spatial footprint of the global energy transition in order to answer a fundamental two-part question relating to environmental justice at a global scale: What lands are being targeted to fuel the energy transition? And who is carrying its downstream costs?
Moderated by Dan Saladino, journalist, presenter, and author, this webinar will bring together leading experts and practitioners to discuss the report's findings and examine how the energy transition can advance both climate goals and land rights.
The discussion will explore:
- The growing land footprint of renewable energy and transition minerals
- Where energy transition projects intersect with Indigenous and community lands
- Emerging challenges and opportunities for land governance
- What is needed to ensure a just and inclusive energy transition
