Working towards these commitments
Secure territorial rights for Indigenous Peoples
Mission
UTOA's mission is centered on promoting the rights, well-being, and self-determination of Assam's tribal/Indigenous communities through advocacy, empowerment, collaboration, and policy engagement.
Objectives
UTOA's objectives revolve around promoting the rights, well-being, and self-determination of Assam's tribal/Indigenous communities through a combination of advocacy, empowerment, capacity-building, and policy engagement efforts.
Constituencies
United Tribal Organization, Assam (UTOA) is a Common platform of scheduled Tribes plains & hills, comprising 35 tribal communities in Assam. Since its formation, the organization has been working towards the realization of the various rights of Indigenous Peoples and raising the various issues faced by the communities to government and to relevant platforms. One of the key areas that have been causing alarming concerns for the tribal communities is the flagrant violation of the provision under Chapter X of the Assam Land and Revenue Regulation Act, 1886 where land of the notified communities are left open for encroachment by outsiders and non-Indigenous Peoples over the years.
