Mission
Build solidarity, share knowledge and support IPLCs to secure community lands and other natural resources.
Objectives
1.To provide a platform for IPLCs from all over Kenya to meet, brainstorm and share experiences for increased shared awareness, knowledge and solidarity to meet the challenges associated with securing their lands;
2.To serve as a platform for engagement and advocacy with State and non-State actors, in particular for fast and fair implementation of the Community Land Act,2016;
3.To ensure effective participation of communities at the county level as full partners in processes of securing community land and management of natural resources;
4.To ensure entrenchment of free, prior and informed consent (FPIC) as a standard practice in processes of governance and management of community land and natural resources;
5.To serve as a platform on which State1, private2 and community 3 actors engage and discuss on interests towards Rights Based Approaches on responsible investments on community lands;
6.To collaborate, work and liaise with individuals and organizations for technical, financial and material support in achieving its objectives.
Constituencies
CLAN is a network of indigenous peoples and local communities (IPLCs), Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Kenya. It was established in 2018 to share knowledge and build solidarity for tackling multiple land and natural resources related issues, in particular formalization of community land rights.
