protect farmers in the West Bank!
At ILC, our mission is to support and uphold the rights of farmers and rural communities worldwide. In this spirit, we stand with our members in Palestine to protect farmers in the West Bank.
ILC member, the Palestinian Farmers Union has put out a statement calling for immediate international protection for farmers in the West Bank. Violence in the area continues to escalate, endangering the lives of its citizens and rights to their farmlands, while violating international humanitarian law.
As the olive harvest approaches, not only are individual lives’ at risk but the social, cultural heritage and economic fiber of the Palestinian community. Olive trees represent Palestinian resilience over the many decades of encroachment on their land.
Last year their last olive harvest was violently disrupted due to the ongoing war in Gaza. Since then, farmers’ access to their land has been consistently obstructed and their lives threatened. ILC rejects violence and land dispossession of any kind, and is extremely concerned for the immediate safety and long term welfare of Palestinian farmers and their families.
We stand in solidarity with our members in Palestine and emphasise the urgent need for the international community to ensure international humanitarian law is respected and upheld.
The PFU has outlined five immediate actions the international community should take. Read them here.
The PFU's Call To Action
"These attacks are not just attempts to destroy the livelihoods of Palestinians but also deliberate efforts to break their will to remain on their land."
