Given escalating attacks, Urgent International Protection for palestinian farmers is needed, according to the Palestinian Farmers' Union.
22.04.2024
The Union emphasized the need for immediate international protection for Palestinian farmers who are facing successive terrorist attacks by settler gangs, with the backing of the Israeli occupying army.
Just yesterday (21.04.2024), settlers attacked the Palestinian farmers in the village of Sawiya, south of Nablus. Dozens were injured and one ambulance driver was killed while trying to transport a wounded person.
According to the Union, attacks -- including killings, displacement, burning of homes and farms, and deliberate destruction of property -- have been escalating since October 7th 2023, with unprecedented intensity over the past two weeks. The residential areas, villages, towns and farmer communities in the West Bank, specifically Al-Mughayyir, Madama, At-Tuwani, Majdal Bani Fadil, the northern Jordan Valley, and south of Hebron, have been particularly affected.
Due to settler attacks, 18 Palestinian farmers have lost their lives. Hundreds have been injured. The Union warns that the ongoing successive attacks by settler gangs -- with the protection and support of the Israeli occupying army -- alongside the genocidal war in Gaza, are nothing but a prelude to committing further massacres against Palestinian farmers in the West Bank and continued efforts to displace them.
The Union calls for a wide global international solidarity campaign to pressure for international protection for Palestinian farmers.
