Did you know...
Limited livelihood opportunities and the absence of youth land rights are the main reasons rural youth cite for migrating. Inheritance laws and customary law suggest that young people should wait many years before fully realising their right to land.
This has affected women much more. Moreover, in rural Asia, farm sizes have become highly fragmented, rendering further subdivisions among living heirs highly impractical.
Youth and land Asia vision
Youth and Land Asia envisions Asian societies that are just, equitable, and sustainable, where the land and tenure rights, and contributions of Youth from Indigenous Peoples, Local Communities of Family and Peasant Farmers, Fisherfolk, Pastoralists, Women, Forest-Dwellers, Hunter-gatherers are fully recognised, ensuring intergenerational justice and generational sustainability of land and natural resources
What we do
Limited livelihood opportunities and the absence of youth land rights are the main reasons rural youth cite for migrating. Inheritance laws and customary law suggest that young people should wait many years before fully realising their right to land. This has affected women much more. Moreover, in rural Asia, farm sizes have become highly fragmented, rendering further subdivisions among living heirs highly impractical.
While rural youth face difficult circumstances, young leaders from our members are stepping up to be at the forefront of providing solutions. We are doing so by bridging generational divides to tackle land inequality and the climate and biodiversity crises - highlighting solutions presented by pastoralists, Indigenous Peoples, farmers, peasants and women Asian youth
Through our leadership programme, we create genuine and unique spaces within our Coalition and beyond to support young people across our constituencies. Our support is oriented to allow youth more opportunities to become decision-makers, solution-bearers and leaders in their own right.
We have united with regional strategic partners to facilitate innovative learning exchanges where we highlight young voices.
