A gender transformative approach
A gender transformative approach informs all policy discussions and ILC activities, committing ILC to “overcome any practices in its operations or those of its members that perpetuate the marginalisation of any section of society, and in particular of women.” While also respecting the diversity of our members. In order to do so, ILC launched its first Gender Audit in 2017 (available below.)
Promoting Gender Justice is more than an exercise to tick-a-box, and indispensable in our efforts to achieve all our joint 10 commitments to people-centred governance.
ILC members use various strategies to promote gender balance, ensuring women's participation in decisions about land and natural resource governance.

Women for Women
The Women for Women mentoring and solidarity network provides a safe space to exchange, learn, talk, share doubts and challenges, find common solutions and build reciprocal support. It facilitates a collaborative, joint strategy to strengthen women’s roles in the ILC network at all levels.

Gender Justice through Gender Audits
ILC started providing financial and technical support to members in conducting Gender Audits in 2019. In 2022, ILC started giving priority to platforms, consistently with our 2022-2030 Strategy. To date, ILC has supported 48 Gender Audits, 15 of which for ILC platforms, for a total amount of nearly 300K USD invested in Gender Justice.
